1966 – James Meredith Shot While Marching Against Fear
James Meredith is an Air Force veteran and was integral to the Civil Rights Movement. In this picture, Meredith was on his second day of marching against fear when he was shot repeatedly and sent to the ground, writhing in pain. After he recovered, he and several other prominent figures finished the march.
