1863 – Gettysburg Battlefield
The Battle of Gettysburg is considered to be the turning point of the US Civil War. This was where the largest engagement was fought between the Union and Confederate forces and won by the former. An estimated 46,000 to 51,000 soldiers lost their lives that day.
